Article 29
Everyone has duties to the community in which alone the free and full development of his personality is possible. In the exercise of his rights and freedoms, everyone shall be subject only to such limitations as are determined by law solely for the purpose of securing due recognition and respect for the rights and freedoms of others and of meeting the just requirements of morality, public order and the general welfare in a democratic society. These rights and freedoms may in no case be exercised contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations.

About my work
In today’s climate, the need to make everyone aware of the global atrocities that take place every day is crucial to the future of our planet and all its citizens. Awareness, education, global cooperation, positivity and friendship are the foundation stones of a wonderful world, and I feel this project displays these hugely.
I was interested in Article 29 and its emphasis on community and freedom. I believe we are better able to be useful in our communities when we are free in body and mind, healthy and happy. When creating my block I wanted to draw from my usual practice of typographical embroidery, so kept it clear of figurative images. I did want to highlight the global all-inclusive nature of the project, so stitched the header in rainbow colours.
I am thrilled to be a part of this project and love that so many people ended up being involved.

About me
Sam P Gibson works predominantly in typographical embroidery and painting. She also sews large abstract pieces and small decorative works which she sells online and through galleries and exhibitions. The slow, arduous process of stitching is the backbone of her work, as is humour and nostalgia.
Based in Northamptonshire, England, although not originally from there, she works from her studio in a reinstated Victorian brewery in the centre of Northampton town. Having lived all over England and in Ireland, she appreciates the small differences and commonalities that make people so fascinating and endearing.
Pop culture, literature, Victoriana, doll’s house miniatures, houseplants, fat books, fabric, trinkets, flea market treasures, gazing out of the window and making lists take up a lot of Sam’s time.
Sam firmly believes in equality for all and strives to spread the message that if we all join together, we can all benefit.
