Yellow quilt

Our project was a practise of inclusion, collaboration and community-building. The result is a spectacular record of the thoughts and passions of a rich diversity of humans at a moment in global history.

"Sharing this experience with fellow fibre artists across the globe is incredible. These quilts represent the unity that we should be striving for, and display many of the ways that we feel this is not happening."

— Libbertine, England UK, Article 8, the Yellow Quilt

About me

I work mainly with cloth for its tactility, responsiveness and abundance. I was originally drawn in by the process, the way in which the materials layer. The way they feel as they are worked. The way the thread and cloth work together, transforming and guiding the work, adding texture, contrast and comfort with every stitch.

I love the history and tradition of women sewing together and am in love with the community that surrounds and supports those who sew together.

About me

I started to study hand-embroidery seriously about eight years ago. I was and still am fascinated by this ancient craft and its purpose to make even the most mundane everyday things beautiful. I embroider book-bindings, so ancient manuscripts and illustrations are often my inspiration. Slowly I have also come to realise how powerful embroidery can be! Usually seen as ‘women’s’ way to make life more pretty by embroidering cute flowers on handkerchiefs and tablecloths, it has such an impact if used to make a political statement.

About me

As an experiential artist, I intertwine stories, connections and history through my work with fibres, paper, labyrinths, psychogeography and ancestral/historical research. I am inspired by the interconnections of people, documents, materials and land. My goal is to express the mind–body connection of my inner and outer landscapes. The inner landscapes are expressed through creative and active meditations including working with fibre (embroidery, knitting, cross-stitch), walking the landscape and labyrinths, and shifting through historical documents and histories.
