In my country, apart from the existing social divides, there is a system of caste. He tainted public opinion so there is no way the teens could have an unbiased jury. He accused them even as he ran for President—years after they were found innocent. </p></div> <div class="blazy field field--name-field-quilt-block-image field--type-image field--label-hidden field--item" data-blazy=""> <div class="media media--blazy media--loading media--image"> <img use_blurry_placeholder="1" height="2256" width="3300" class="b-lazy media__image media__element img-responsive" data-src="https://quilts.moadoph.gov.au/sites/default/files/styles/quilt_block_large/public/2018-10/8_1.jpg?itok=mjzrDz6G" alt="Article 8 by Darci Lenker" src="data:image/jpeg;base64,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" typeof="foaf:Image" /> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-artist-photo field--type-image field--label-hidden field--item"> <img src="/sites/default/files/styles/portrait/public/2018-10/Darci%20Lenker.jpg?itok=vNnKQdX0" width="500" height="600" alt="Darci Lenker" typeof="foaf:Image" class="img-responsive" /> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-udhr-article field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">UDHR Article</div> <div class="field--item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/12" hreflang="en">Article 8</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-quilt field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Quilt</div> <div class="field--item"><a href="/blue-quilt" hreflang="en">Blue quilt</a></div> </div> Mon, 15 Oct 2018 05:24:59 +0000 website@moadoph.gov.au 79 at https://quilts.moadoph.gov.au Ashley Catharine Smith https://quilts.moadoph.gov.au/quilt-block/ashley-catharine-smith <span>Ashley Catharine Smith</span> <span><span lang="" about="/user/1" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="" content="website@moadoph.gov.au">website@moadop…</span></span> <span>Mon, 10/15/2018 - 16:25</span> <div class="field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field--item"><p>Ashley Catharine Smith is a New York-based artist working in photography, video and fibres. Through the combination of these mediums she creates melodramatic depictions of relationships, sex and gender. Her work is driven by her desire to understand how rules about feelings and gender roles affect our interpersonal relationships and sense of self. Ashley explores the complexity of relationships by depicting intimate moments with an additional element of fibres seemingly growing from the surface of the photograph.</p> <p>Smith has a Master of Fine Art in Photography, Video and Related Media from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Her work has been exhibited internationally and throughout the United States at the Delaware Art Museum; Society for Contemporary Craft and the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, Pittsburgh; Marin Museum of Contemporary Art, Center for Sex and Culture, San Francisco; Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum, Slovakia; and the Knockdown Center, New York; among others. She is currently an adjunct photography professor at Drexel University and an instructor at the International Center of Photography.</p></div> <div class="field field--name-field-artist-name field--type-string field--label-hidden field--item">Ashley Catharine Smith</div> <div class="field field--name-field-artist-languages field--type-string field--label-hidden field--item">English</div> <div class="field field--name-field-artist-country field--type-string field--label-hidden field--item">United States of America</div> <div class="field field--name-field-artist-nationality field--type-string field--label-hidden field--item">American</div> <div class="field field--name-field-artist-statement field--type-text-long field--label-hidden field--item"><p>Article 9 was important to me because of issues plaguing my country. While I was stitching, lawyers and protesters were on their way to John F Kennedy International Airport to fight President Trump’s ‘Muslim ban’. The ban unjustly prevented people from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States. Then, the Trump administration announced that immigrant children at the southern border were to be detained at facilities separate from their parents. The United States also has a history of systematic racism that targets people of colour through mass incarceration. </p> <p>I stitched on a napkin that belonged to my mother. I used it so she could be part of the project, and because it resembles the colour of my skin. I stitched a gradient of different flesh tones with a technique that mimics the look of hair. By using different flesh tones, I hope to convey a sense of unity among all people. Equality is a human right. </p></div> <div class="blazy field field--name-field-quilt-block-image field--type-image field--label-hidden field--item" data-blazy=""> <div class="media media--blazy media--loading media--image"> <img use_blurry_placeholder="1" height="2288" width="3300" class="b-lazy media__image media__element img-responsive" data-src="https://quilts.moadoph.gov.au/sites/default/files/styles/quilt_block_large/public/2018-10/9_2.jpg?itok=OXPcOgk0" alt="Article 9 by Ashley Catharine Smith" src="data:image/jpeg;base64,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" typeof="foaf:Image" /> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-artist-photo field--type-image field--label-hidden field--item"> <img src="/sites/default/files/styles/portrait/public/2018-10/Ashley%20Catharine%20Smith.jpg?itok=fgc81KHt" width="500" height="600" alt="Ashley Catharine Smith" typeof="foaf:Image" class="img-responsive" /> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-udhr-article field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">UDHR Article</div> <div class="field--item"><a href="/taxonomy/term/13" hreflang="en">Article 9</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-quilt field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field--label">Quilt</div> <div class="field--item"><a href="/blue-quilt" hreflang="en">Blue quilt</a></div> </div> Mon, 15 Oct 2018 05:25:28 +0000 website@moadoph.gov.au 80 at https://quilts.moadoph.gov.au
